A lifetime of service. A commitment to Hendersonville.

For Rob Reyburn, service has never been just a chapter of his life. It has been a constant throughout it.

Rob grew up in a military family. His father served in the U.S. Army. One uncle served in the Army and fought in Korea, while another served in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot in both Korea and Vietnam. Their example helped shape Rob's own sense of duty and inspired him to serve his country.

That calling led to a career of more than 21 years in the United States Marine Corps.

Professional Service

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Rob continued supporting the mission he had spent his career serving. For more than 19 years, he has worked as a defense contractor supporting the women and men who serve our country.

His military and professional careers have given him decades of experience leading people, solving problems, managing complex responsibilities, and working alongside people from many different backgrounds.

Home in Hendersonville

Rob and his wife, Barbara, have proudly called Durham Farms home for nearly eight years. In that time, they have come to deeply appreciate the people, neighborhoods, and sense of community that make Hendersonville such a desirable place to live.

And Rob's decision to run for Alderman did not begin with a long-held ambition to seek political office.

It began with a conversation.

When current Ward 6 Alderman Eddie Roberson decided not to seek another term, he asked Rob whether he would consider running to represent Ward 6.

“I told him I would be honored to do so.”

A New Way to Serve

After more than 40 years of service through his military and professional career, Rob believes the next chapter of that service belongs here at home.

He is running for Ward 6 Alderman to bring the leadership, discipline, accountability, and problem-solving experience of his career to the community he and Barbara call home.

But Rob also understands that serving as Alderman isn't about arriving with all the answers.

It starts with listening.

As Ward 6 Alderman, Rob will listen to residents, work collaboratively with fellow city leaders, ask the hard questions, and focus on practical decisions that help keep Hendersonville safe, strong, well-managed, and a place people are proud to call home.

“I believe my experiences have prepared me well to serve as your Ward 6 Alderman. I will listen to the residents of Ward 6, work collaboratively with our city leaders, and focus on keeping our community a safe, strong, and desirable place to live.”

Beyond the Bio

For all the years Rob has spent in demanding roles with serious responsibilities, the people who know him know another side of him, too.

He's quick to laugh, easy to talk to, and happiest around the people — and clearly just about any animal — he happens to meet.

At home, Rob and Barbara have built the kind of life they value about Hendersonville itself: connected to their neighbors, involved in their community, and always ready to bring people together.

Each year, Rob and Barbara open their home to their neighbors for the “Ash-Bash,” an annual gathering where the whole street is invited.

And when winter storms damaged trees throughout the neighborhood's shared green spaces, Rob and Barbara helped organize neighbors to pitch in together — clearing fallen trees and debris so the spaces everyone shares could remain safe and enjoyable.

It's a small example of something that comes naturally to Rob: when something needs doing, bring people together and get to work.

For Rob, community isn't an abstract idea. It's the people around you.
